CBS VFX recently completed the final 7th season of the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”. The team was tasked with a myriad of visual effects. Behind many of the seasons’ episodes were character flashbacks.
STUDIO CITY, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2019)– Its work has been seen in enormously popular series ranging from G.L.O.W. and Orange is the New Black on Netflix, to This Is Us on NBC, and CBS’s Hawaii 5-0 and the upcoming All Rise, and today the award-winning technology group CBS VFX unveiled its new name and logo, as well as newly enhanced virtual production capabilities that push the boundaries of what’s possible in TV production.
Showtime’s hit series “Black Monday” chronicles the 31st anniversary of the worst stock market crash in the history of Wall Street, Oct. 19, 1987. The series stars legendary actor and director Don Cheadle. One key challenge was to transform Los Angeles into a variety of New York streets.
Creative director, Craig Weiss, stated: The audience must believe they are in the moment with the actor. On the recent episode titled “Vietnam” Jack played by Milo Ventimiglia has flashbacks from the Vietnam War. All the scenes were filmed in the Los Angeles county desert. The challenge was to transform the dry arid desert into a lush green Vietnam jungle.
Parallax PreViz is CBS VFX’s latest addition to their visual effects services. This previsualization tool is a giant step beyond traditional storyboards and 3D animatics. It enables cinematographers and directors to step right into their scene. You have the ability to switch types of cameras, lenses and record each sequence in real time.

CBS VFX, in collaboration with Netflix, created an original, fully immersive VR experience for the psychological thriller, Death Note.
